13. Inspired Action Podcast With Mark Minard

I had the honor of kicking off my Season 2 podcast series..."Success Leaves Clues" by speaking with Best Selling Author, Speaker, Top 100 Podcaster and CEO of Dreamshine, Mark Minard Listen for his crazy story of how he went from finding himself in a jail cell at 17 yrs old living in a trailer making bad choices in his life to finding his way into college getting his degree and embarking on a life journey that he could have never believed was possible as that 17 yr old sitting in the jail cell. A life that included: • Starting his own organization for developmental disabilities Dreamshine, Dreamshine is an innovative year round Adult Day Support, including job, community engagement, and transportation. Dreamshine is an adult day program that provides vocational training, job options, life skills and independent living skill training, social skills coaching, educational tutoring, learning groups, recreation! • Starting what has now become a top 100 on itunes podcast based upon the life and entrepreneurial lessons he learned all packed in the “Elevating Beyond” Podcast. • Speaker • Best Selling Author of “The Story of You” AND His New Book “16 Reasons Why Your Business SUCKS” AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER ON AMAZON KINDLE https://bit.ly/16ReasonsKindle OR PRE-ORDER FROM AMAZON PAPERBACK https://bit.ly/16ReasonsPaperback BIG IDEAS from our conversation: • “You’re gonna SUCK’ at a lot of things you do but don’t let that stop you from doing them anyway because that’s how you learn. Great quote from his book on this point: from the movie White Men Can’t Jump where Woody Harrelson’s character tells Wesley Snipes character “you would rather look good and lose than look bad and win.” Be a winner no matter how much work it is or how bad you look doing it. • Don’t be a victim. I had the victim mindset where I thought everything that happened in my life and my bad decisions were someone else’s fault. That’s how I ended up in jail at 17 yrs.old. • As a leader you have to take “accountability” for everything that happens in your business. Quit trying to blame everyone else, it’s all on you and sometimes there are things to learn in those failures so don’t be too prideful to continue to learn. • Have “self-awareness’ or you will SUCK as a leader. • Work Hard. I’ve always had a great work ethic and that is partly what has contributed to my success. • It doesn’t feel like work if you love what you do. • Follow your gut • Have a great attitude; always. • SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GREAT POSITIVE PEOPLE. Cut all negative people and influences out of your life/business.
